We are excited to announce that CISV International is one of 43 organizations and individuals awarded the prestigious European Citizen’s Prize of the European Parliament. We were nominated for this honour by German Member of European Parliament (MEP) Ms Birgit Schnieber-Jastram, whose children attended CISV programmes. Ms Schnieber-Jastram was delighted to hear of the award, saying “CISV International's achievement over the past six decades in cross-cultural cooperation richly deserves wider recognition”.
President of CISV International, Brett Vottero, said on hearing the news, “The many thousands of CISV volunteers and past participants in Europe and around the world are proud and excited to receive this award. As CISV’s peace education programmes were designed to have a life-long impact on children and young people, it seems very fitting that our nomination was from a parent who saw that impact first hand. We are very grateful to Ms Schnieber-Jastram for putting our name forward.”
The European Citizen's Prize was launched by the Parliament in 2008 to recognise exceptional achievements by Europeans who contribute to promoting better mutual understanding and closer integration within the European Union. CISV International will receive a commemorative medal at a national award event in London and will join MEPs and the other winners at a further ceremony at the European Parliament in Brussels 16 October 2013.
