CISV International was recently awarded the prestigious European Citizen’s Prize, following a nomination from German Member of European Parliament (MEP) Ms Birgitte Schnieber-Jastram.

The Secretary General of CISV International, Gabrielle Mandell, visited the European Parliament in Brussels for a special award ceremony to recognise the 2013 prize winners.

Gabrielle was joined in representing CISV at the event by Peter Schubert of CISV Germany and Serge Peeters of CISV Belgium. During the day, Peter was also delighted to have a private interview with Ms Schnieber-Jastram who, like Peter, comes from Hamburg. The MEP told Peter that her children both attended CISV Villages and it was because of their positive experiences that she nominated CISV International. Winning the European Citizen’s Prize was a huge and unexpected honour for CISV International and Peter passed on our gratitude and thanks.

The European Citizen's Prize was launched by the European Parliament in 2008 to recognise exceptional achievements by Europeans who contribute to promoting better mutual understanding and closer integration within the European Union. CISV International was one of 43 organizations and individuals awarded the European Citizen’s Prize in 2013.
