Vägen ut (The way out)

Description

The Vägen UT! (Way Out!) partnership sprang from the observation that the crime rate falls noticeably in towns where ex-offenders get together to counsel each other. This happened for instance in the 25 Swedish towns where the CRIS (Criminals Return Into Society) KRIS service is active. To set up the project, existing agencies working with ex-offenders in Göteborg were joined by the local co-operative and association development agencies, the employment service, the prison and probation service, the regional social insurance agency, the social work resource centre and the city council. "A venture of this kind relied on mobilising government and municipal resources – not only expert knowledge and legitimacy were needed but also of finance," says project manager Ms Svebo Lindgren. "What’s more, brave public servants acted as advocates and ambassadors for the project within their organisations. This has been important both in legitimising the project and in finding public funding. " The mix of partners has also been vital, because each of the different public bodies involved encouraged the others to take an active part…

There are several organisations connected to "Vägen ut" and they all organise different activities. One is "Bryggan" (the Bridge/ the Dock) that will be our partner organisation in the IPP in Mölndal. Bryggan works with children whose parents are or have been in prison. These children have long been an invisible group in our society. Every day there are between 8-10,000 children with one or both parents in a correctional facility.

"Bryggan" works from a child’s perspective, which means that they always focus on what is best for the child. It is a safe meeting place for children, young people and parents, and offers possibilities to meet others in the same life situation. Children and young people participate in structured group activities, similar to those for children with parents who are addicts. Mothers and fathers are offered parent groups.

Our IPP in Mölndal 2008-09

Bryggan organise camps for their members today, but now they want to develop their organisation and get inspiration to improve it. We believe that the knowledge of CISV:ers could be useful for Bryggan here. By organising activities and games together we can learn from each other, have fun and improve our organisations!

During the practical part of the IPP the IPP-participants and members from Bryggan will plan and organize a camp in the beginning of January 2009. The participants will probably help the organisation with practical work in their facilities as well. The participants will also get in touch with people who work for other organisations in "Vägen Ut!" One works with the drug-problems and how to get a new life without drugs and criminality. In order to prepare the participants of Bryggan for the IPP, CISV Mölndal will organize joint activities with Bryggan during the fall 2008.

Before the IPP the participants should look up whether there exist any similar activities in their home countries. Examine how people look at ex-prisoners and those who have expiated their crimes

Campsite and practicals…

CISV Mölndal will in co-operation with Bryggan find a campsite close to Göteborg.

There will both be a pedagoical and a practical staff group. We are also going to build the Ipp in a way of learning by doing so as a participant you are going to have the will to make you own camp in both practical and teortical way!!!

Åsa Callesen, CISV Mölndal, will have the contact with Maria Perkhed from Bryggan.
