IPP Germany 2007ThemeEcology vs Economy – challenge or opportunity?LocationHallig Hooge , GermanyDatesAugust 18 th – September 1 st 2007DelegationsGermany, Italy, Hungary, Brazil, Japan, USA, Norway, KenyaPartner OrganisationSchutzstation WattenmeerDescription
This IPP will be the sequel to the IPP Wattenmeer that took place two years ago. As
in 2005, staff and participants of this IPP will be living in a house on „Hallig Hooge“ which is a
tiny island near the coast in the North Sea. It´s located in a protected area in the middle of the “
Wattenmeer” (tideland), a unique ecosystem all along the coastline of the Netherlands, Germany and
Denmark. Participants will be working on various projects together with an organisation
called “Schutzstation Wattenmeer” which has the aim, to protect and raise awareness about the
area. The region is also an increasingly popular area for tourists, which puts the protection of
the environment up against economic interests. During the educational part participants will
present examples from their countries of conflicts between economy and nature conservation, and
possibly interesting solutions to this dilemma.
