Despite the fact the topic of this IPP was "history", one main focus lied on the influence historical events still have on our social, cultural and political life in different countries today. With the help of guestspeakers - among others a witness of the time who survived the concentration camp Ausschwitz the group also gained more knowledge on the holocaust theme, visible on the project site.
During the working part the 18 participants and staff contributed to the "KZ Gedenkstätte Neuengamme", a WWII labour camp memorial, by digging out three holes up to 2,70m deep, investigating remainders of the camp, such as kitchen and office interior.
They also cleaned, labeled and catalogued large objects that were previously discovered as well as a lot of more or less small artifacts found within the archeological work on the site.
In addition to that, they developed a questionaire for visitors to the memorial´s exhibition, in order to collect further perspectives from different age groups and other countries. The interview and results will stay with the partner organisation after the IPP as well as a magazin with different thoughts on history, the holocaust and the ipp itself, the group put together.
